Expansion project for Marathon Oil

Marathon Oil Corporation’s refinery in Garyville, Louisiana, USA, has embarked on a $3.2-billion expansion. The project will increase the refinery’s capacity by 180,000 barrels a day to 425,000 barrels a day.

As part of the expansion, Marathon has signed a licence for a hydrocracker from Shell Global Solutions (US) Inc. This 70,000-barrels-a-day unit will, in part, enable Marathon to convert vacuum gas oil feedstocks into clean fuels such as ultra-low-sulphur diesel.

The licence includes the technology, the process design package, the reactor internals, and catalysts provided by Shell’s catalyst business, Criterion Catalysts & Technologies.
