Anniversary celebration in Germany – a place to help dreams come true
23/02/2007
What fuel will be at the fuel pumps of the next generation of fuel stations? Will we all be driving around in virtually non-polluting vehicles?
Those are the burning questions on the minds of researchers at Shell PAE-Labor, Hamburg, Germany, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in September this year.
Since its opening in 1956, engineers and scientists at the R&D laboratory have helped to develop pioneering lubricants and fuels for champion motor racers; drive research on sustainable mobility for ordinary motorists; and set standards in environmentally positive innovations.
At PAE-Labor, multidisciplinary team members work closely together to combine their individual strengths in the best way for each customer. Helped by its strong links with industry leaders such as Ferrari, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Ducati and Porsche, the laboratory has been involved in developing innovative products across the globe, including low-sulphur petrol and heating oil, Shell V-Power‡ fuels and Shell synthetic fuels.
“Using alternative fuels such as advanced biofuels and, further into the future, hydrogen are the next logical steps in the evolutionary development chain for mobility,” says Wolfgang Warnecke, global manager fuels technology, Shell Global Solutions (Deutschland) GmbH.
‡Shell V-Power is a Shell Group trademark.
