On August 8, 2007 Shell Global Solutions and the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) signed a technical service agreement (TSA). The agreement was signed between Osama Al-Issa, Acting Managing Director (in the absence on leave of Chairman and MD, Sami Al-Rushaid) KNPC and Richard Wood, (Business Development Manager) Shell Global Solutions (Middle East).
According to the TSA, Shell Global Solutions will provide a range of technical advice and support services to the Shuaiba Refinery in Kuwait City over the next 18 months. The Shuaiba Refinery, located within the Shuaiba Industrial Area, some 50km south of Kuwait City, is the first refinery built by a national company in the region and occupies an area of 1,332,000m.
Greg Lewin, President, Shell Global Solutions said: “Shell Global Solutions has vast experience in developing business relationships with our customers and working together to help them implement their strategic vision in a coherent and efficient way. Our partnership with KNPC is a great win for us in terms of demonstrating our expertise in the region and increasing our profile in the Kuwait market.”
The concerted efforts made on this project were such that mobilisation of personnel was completed within few weeks of signing the TSA, a process which usually takes up to three months. A Shell Global Solutions team led by Jos Vriens arrived in Kuwait City on August 12 and has already begun work on the project.
