Schumacher receives special thanks from Shell Motorsport fans

Michael Schumacher and Shell's Alberto Friedrich

Last October, Shell Motorsport gave you the chance to say goodbye to retiring seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, the most successful driver in Formula One history. Over a thousand messages flooded the online guestbook during the month, paying homage to Michael’s 11 seasons with the Scuderia Ferrari.

This week at the Poznan Circuit in Poland, we presented Michael with a specially bound presentation book on your behalf, containing the thoughts, thanks and anecdotes we collected. Michael, who was appearing at the Shell V-Power launch, was surprised and delighted by the gift.

“I have received so many messages from people around the world since I retired, but this is one of the most special things I have been given,” said the seven-time Formula One World Champion and former Ferrari driver. “Please say thank you to the people who sent the messages to me, I am very happy to receive them.”

The coffee table book was specially formatted and bound to ensure the comments were kept just as they had been when posted on the website. The cover is embossed with the simple phrase - ‘A Thank You’.

“Presenting this book to Michael was a very special moment for Shell,” said Alberto Friedrich, Global Sponsorships Manager, Shell Brands International A.G. “Michael’s contribution to our team has been immeasurable. There was no better way to say thank you to someone who has been such a key part of our Formula One success than to pass on the comments from the fans at Shell Motorsport. But this is not the end. We are happy Michael and Shell will continue to collaborate for the future.”

Michael Schumacher’s tenure with Scuderia Ferrari was the beginning of a golden age for the legendary Italian Marque. After joining the team in 1996, Michael added another five FIA Formula One World Championship Drivers’ titles to the two he had collected earlier in his career, while the team took six World Champion Constructors’ crowns. Michael retired at the end of 2006 after a hard fought battle for an eighth title.
