Our approach to HIV and AIDS
We take the issue of HIV/AIDS seriously. This pandemic affects our employees, our contractors, suppliers and customers and impacts on our business environment. We believe we have a role to play in fighting HIV/AIDS. We are taking steps to protect our employees and their dependents from the HIV/AIDS, to care for those who are infected, and to work with others to fight the spread of AIDS.
We have company-wide HIV/AIDS programme outlining that we will:
- Not discriminate against HIV/AIDS affected individuals including employees, contractors, customers and suppliers.
- Provide or arrange medical treatment for employees affected by HIV/AIDS that is as comprehensive as circumstances reasonably permit, including anti-retroviral therapy and counselling where not otherwise available.
- Participate in education and prevention programmes for employees, their families and communities.
- Include HIV/AIDS in our impact assessments.
- Create ongoing partnerships with relevant local and global organisations and other key stakeholders to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic collectively in the societies in which the company operates and sells its products and services.
- Take part in regional efforts to address the HIV/AIDS issues in partnership with other companies, national and international organisations.
- Develop a monitoring programme to measure the success of its policy on HIV/AIDS.
Today Shell is responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic together with our global and local partners by delivering workplace and/or community activities in over 60 countries worldwide.
