Sustainability reporting
We have voluntarily reported on our environmental and social performance since 1997. Our sustainability reporting focuses on the challenges that most affect our business performance and matter most to our key stakeholders. Reporting in an honest and open way helps build trust, motivate staff, and improve our environmental and social performance.

Sustainability Report
How we report on sustainable development
We report honestly and openly about the issues that matter most. We have systems in place to ensure this.
External Review Committee
We use an independent external review committee to guarantee the quality, balance and relevance of our reporting, following the AA1000 standard.
Global Reporting Initiative
We are A+ reporters (GRI checked) under the ‘G3’ guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative. Learn how we report against each of the GRI indicators.
Reporting in line with IPIECA
We use the IPIECA/API/OGP oil and gas industry guidance for our sustainability reporting.
Millennium development goals
Contributing to the United Nation’s eight goals for reducing poverty.
UN Global Compact – reporting
We have been a member of the UN Global Compact since it started, and we report our progress toward its ten principles. Read about the Global Compact’s four areas:
External voluntary initiatives
In addition to our own Shell Business Principles, our reporting is guided by the major external voluntary codes and principles that Shell supports.
