Global environmental standards
We have a set of global environmental standards for all Shell companies and joint ventures we control. These standards describe in clear terms what an operation is required to do in relation to environmental management, helping us get consistent environmental performance in Shell.
We have a set of global environmental standards for all Shell companies and joint ventures we control.
Shell-wide environmental standards have been in place since 1998. In 2007, we updated them.
The topics they cover include:
- managing greenhouse gas emissions at our facilities;
- how we do integrated environmental, social and health impact assessments, including engagement with our stakeholders;
- energy efficiency in our operations;
- solid waste;
- spill response preparedness;
- continuous flaring and venting of natural gas at oil production sites;
- Sulphur Oxides (SOx) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions from major production and manufacturing facilities;
- impacts on water (produced water and process effluents); and
- product stewardship.
