History of Shell Eco-marathon
The Shell Eco-marathon began in 1939 at a Shell research laboratory in the U.S. as a friendly wager between scientists to see who could get the most miles per gallon from their vehicles.

Vehicle categories
Teams can enter vehicles in two categories, the prototypes group where the primary design consideration is reducing drag and maximising efficiency and UrbanConcept for vehicles built to more conventional four-wheel roadworthy criteria.
