 Michiel Kool was appointed Executive Vice President Corporate Support (EVP EPS) in May, 2005. In this role, Michiel is responsible for support and advice on Strategy, Planning, Competitive Intelligence, External Affairs and HSE. Michiel joined Shell International Exploration and Production in 1984 and has held assignments with Shell companies in Gabon, New Zealand, Oman, the Netherlands, Brazil and the United Kingdom. As a petroleum engineer he was involved in the operation of oil fields in Gabon and the interior of Oman and the development of the Maui gas field offshore New Zealand. He also held assignments as Head of Safety in Oman and as Senior Economist responsible for assessing worldwide E&P investment opportunities. From 1998 he was involved in establishing a Shell E&P business in Brazil, initially based in the head office in the Netherlands and then in Rio de Janeiro as Vice President E&P of Shell Brasil Ltda. In January 2004 he assumed the role of CEO of Shell Marine Products based in London. Shell Marine Products is a global business providing fuels, lubricants and services to the worldwide shipping industry. Michiel was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1960 and graduated with a M.Sc. degree in Mining Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1984. Michiel and his wife Denise have a son and three daughters, who share their passion for sailing and skiing. Denise is a graduate architect.
