In 2006, hazardous waste increased by almost 20%, while non-hazardous waste increased by more than 18%.
What actions are taken to reduce waste output?
Most sites have a waste prevention plan in place, designed to prevent and/or minimise waste production at source. If the generation of waste is unavoidable, subsequent steps would be to recycle or re-use. If that is not possible, waste is incinerated or finally, failing all other options, sent to landfill.
