Making a full recovery - questions and answers

Here is a selection of questions and answers on this topic.

Q.  What evidence do you have to back up claims that these surfactants work?

A.  We have demonstrated their performance in studies at our own laboratories in The Netherlands and the USA. Independent assessments have also been carried out by the University of Texas Center for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. Field trials are planned in North America, the Middle East and the North Sea.

Q. Will this EOR technique work in all types of wells or is it limited to only certain types of wells?

A. This technique can work in a large number of reservoirs, but not all. Some of the factors to be taken into account when considering the potential of a reservoir for enhanced oil recovery include oil viscosity, reservoir temperature, and rock morphology.

Q. Is your surfactant EOR technology designed to work in high salinity reservoirs, for example in sea water?

A. Yes, Shell Chemicals surfactants technology is capable of dealing with high salinity reservoirs. We are developing EOR surfactants for salinities up to 200,000 Total Dissolved Salts (TDS). The Shell Chemicals EOR surfactants are being developed under the ENORDET brand name.
