Garo Vaporciyan
Venture Manager Westhollow Technology Center
Garo Vaporciyan has worked for Shell for 22 years after receiving a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. For the past six years, he has been the Venture Manager at Shell's Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, accountable for new business and technology development in the carbonates area. In this role, and as an expert in new technology commercialisation, Garo has completed many projects across multiple cultures/regions and for a number of Shell companies.
Previously, Garo was Manager of Strategic Innovation at the Shell laboratories in Amsterdam. Before that, he was Strategy Manager for the global phenol and related businesses and Technology Strategist for polymers. Garo has also served as a Senior Research Engineer in the Process Engineering & Evaluations Group at Westhollow Technology Center. His earliest role at Shell was as a reaction engineering specialist, managing the department's exploratory R&D program.
Over the past two decades, Garo has earned patents on dozens of chemical processes and fuel compositions. He currently lives in Houston, is married and has three children.
