Bill Rothwell joins Codexis board of directors

12/01/2008

Bill Rothwell, Vice President Innovation and Chemicals Technology, has been appointed to the board of directors for Codexis Inc, a developer of clean biocatalytic technology manufacturing processes.

Bill Rothwell, Vice President Innovation and Chemicals Technology, has been appointed to the board of directors for Codexis Inc, a developer of clean biocatalytic technology manufacturing processes.

Bill's appointment forms part of an expanded partnership between Shell and Codexis, announced in November 2007, to develop new super enzymes to convert biomass to fuel. Five years of research collaboration will focus on adapting enzymes to improve the conversion of a range of raw materials into high-performance fuels, helping Shell to develop the next generation of biofuels as it explores a number of non-food bio materials, new conversion processes and alternative fuel products.

Announcing the election of Bill and fellow new appointee Dennis Wolf of MySQL to Codexis's board of directors, Alan Shaw, Codexis President and Chief Executive Officer said: "Our new directors bring valuable expertise to Codexis at an important point in our company's growth. Bill Rothwell has nearly 30 years experience managing and leading technology innovation at Shell. He joins us as part of our extended collaboration with Shell in biofuels."

Bill was General Manager, Ethylene Oxide/Glycols from 2002 before being appointed Vice President Innovation and Chemicals Technology for Global Solutions, effective from March 2007.

As a member of both the Chemicals and Global Solutions leadership teams, Bill is responsible for identifying and leveraging innovation and chemicals technology across Shell, including for Chemicals.
