Shell Chemicals support skills in the UK chemicals industry
27/07/2007
Attracting talented staff is a key issue for the chemicals industry.
This year Shell Chemicals sponsored the Chemical Industry Skills Award, hosted by the UK Chemical Industries Association (CIA), supporting industry efforts to ensure a vibrant talent pool in the UK chemicals industry.
Dave Topliffe, Production Unit Manager, Shell Higher Olefins Process and Waste Management at the Stanlow Chemicals Manufacturing plant (shown far left), presented the Skills Award at the annual UK Chemical Industry Awards, held on July 5 in York, northern England.
The award recognises the employer who has done the most to contribute to the acquisition of skills by the company’s workforce. This year’s winner was Warwick International, which manufactures and markets specialty chemicals. The company was selected for its innovative and structured approach to skills development.
Steve Elliott, Chief Executive of the CIA (above right, next to Doug Lovatt, Vice President of Warwick International), said: "The majority of chemical businesses report difficulties recruiting the right skills mix so I am delighted that Shell chemicals companies have taken a lead and supported this award, which celebrates the efforts by UK chemicals companies to attract, develop and grow the skills in our workforce."
Dave Topliffe, who is a Shell Chemicals representative for the CIA, added: "Securing and developing talented technical and commercial professionals is a key priority for the chemicals industry - both in the UK and globally - and as such we were delighted both to sponsor and present this prestigious award."
The CIA's Chemical Industry Awards aim to promote and showcase excellence among chemical companies, sites and individuals.
