Organised by Handelsblatt, the 10th chemicals and petrochemicals industry annual conference was held in Dusseldorf in May. The theme of this year’s conference was “Chemistry 2009”.
On behalf of Shell Chemicals - Sven Royall, Vice President Global Intermediates - spoke on 5 May. His presentation was titled “Rising to the energy challenge: the chemicals response to feedstock and carbon constraints” and covered the following topics:-
- Growing slate of feedstock ranging from biological sources such as ethanol and agricultural biomass to coal
- The energy challenge is: more energy, less carbon dioxide
- The chemical industry will need to make revolutionary technological breakthroughs
