We’re responsible for finding commercially viable oil and gas reserves by assessing the characteristics and constraints of the earth’s subsurface.

Join Shell in Geosciences and your first role could be in exploration, geophysics, production geology, research or geomatics. After some introductory classroom training, we'll take you on regional exploration, a field study or to one of our production teams. If you choose to pursue a career in research you'll probably start in one of our research hubs, with the opportunity to gain experience in other areas of our business after a few years. You could also start with us in one of the following areas:
- The data management of subsurface data
- The processing or acquisition of geophysical, usually seismic, data
- Working on secondment to Schlumberger, the leading supplier of technology, project management and information solutions to the oil and gas industry
- Specialist geology at one of Shell's Centres of Expertise
On your first assignment, you could be involved in geological studies for exploration prospect evaluations, field development and well planning, well operations, seismic interpretation and static reservoir modeling.
You'll do a real job from your first day with Shell, applying creative problem solving skills, lateral thinking and persistence as you make a real contribution to the energy business.
We'll be with you every step of the way with flexible development programmes that will provide you with the foundation skills you'll need to support a future career. Made up of a combination of on the job learning and formal training, these programmes will also give you the chance to move between roles after a duration that maximises learning but still allows varied experiences in different parts of Exploration and Production.
You'll also undertake personal and leadership development opportunities in line with your personal development plan and business needs. At a higher level you'll have the opportunity to grow your abilities in HSE, technical, commercial, organisational, political and business areas.
