What motivated you to take an internship at Shell in the first place?
Two of my fellow students were working at Shell and had nothing but good things to say about the company. Furthermore, the internship fitted perfectly to my expectations, and being able to work in Hamburg also appealed.
What role did you play during your internship - did you feel you were doing a 'real job' ?
I was assigned to the Shell lubricants to Technical Services department. Together with the Shell Lubricants Global Manager Technical Services and the Shell Lubricants Technical Services Manager, I worked on creating ways improve operational and structural organisation across all the divisions. During the internship I also wrote my master thesis on this topic.
What did you learn about Shell - and about yourself - in the process?
Besides the topic-related knowledge I gained, I had the opportunity to get a real insight into how processes are managed within Shell, to experience company culture and get in touch with different departments.
This experience was essential in deciding which area I would like to work in at Shell.
What helped you to decide to accept the Shell job offer after the internship was over?
Having completed the internship, it was easy for me to apply to a specific area within the company. Support during the recruitment process was very good and the offer met my expectations.
Would you recommend an internship to other high-achieving students and why?
I would always recommend an internship at Shell, especially because you get the opportunity to gain insight into the area within Shell that you are interested in. You can gain first experience here, find out whether it meets your expectations and start building up a network.
