Why did you decide to work for Shell? |
I was really excited to be headhunted by Shell. They were going through a time of change, specifically in the IT area, and I saw a tremendous opportunity for me to contribute and make a difference.
Where did you come from (What is your background/experience?) |
I was born in Malaysia, but left when I was 17 years old. I've spent most of my professional years outside of Malaysia - in New Zealand, Australia, USA, Brunei, Japan and Singapore. I moved to Singapore in 1996 and have remained there ever since with my family. As an IT professional, I have worked in a variety of different sectors. I spent the early part of my career in the banking industry then worked with various other multinationals before joining Shell.

Have you received any training at Shell? |
Yes, Shell offers a rich source of training and I have found it especially useful at the senior levels. I've participated in an individualised Extended Leadership Programme assessment and also took part in the SEG Leadership Development programme.
Have you travelled to other countries/regions within your role? |
Aeroplanes are my normal office environment! I'm forever getting on and off of flights and have travelled to all regions with the exception of Latin America.
What do you like most about the job? |
There's never a dull moment. In the pursuit of 'top quartile price performance', there is a constant pressure to stay competitive and that's both challenging and exhilarating at the same time. Also, with Shell's strong sense of culture, I find attempting to understand how its entire human ecosystem works together fascinating.
