Why did you decide to work for Shell?

I wanted the challenge of working for a company that that had a large and complex SAP ERP system, as at that time my focus was on ERP. I chose Shell because of the real career development it offered.

How would you describe your role at Shell?

My role at Shell is challenging but very rewarding as I'm responsible for managing IT incidents for Downstream One in the USA. This involves understanding a complex IT landscape that includes three major ERP systems and several hundred supporting applications. I am accountable for ensuring that any incidents related to these are resolved in the quickest possible time with minimum disruption to the business. In a nutshell, I champion the Incident Management processes for Downstream USA.

How would you describe your typical day?

From day-to-day operational monitoring of tickets and incidents to managing relationships with our service partners for infrastructure and application support, my day is generally very varied. Currently our group is globalising and a large part of my day is spent designing global processes for incident management and working with my counterparts in Europe and Asia Pacific to share learning and help implement these processes.

What do you like most about the job?

I like the challenge of working for a global business and having a say in processes that help it function more efficiently and reliably. I also really appreciate the excellent work culture. Above all, Shell is very flexible and supports work-life balance, which has helped me to accommodate the needs of both my family and career.

What makes you stay at Shell?

Shell has a culture of rewarding performance and provides excellent training and growth options. And if I ever want to switch careers and do something totally different, it's more than likely I could make that change within Shell!
