Production Technologist, EP

Yasmin
    • Location: Europe
    • Joined Shell: March 2002

What is your current role at Shell?

I am a Production Technologist working as part of a surveillance team with the objective of maximizing production from about 35 wells in the Gannet field. I work in a multi-disciplinary team of eight people responsible for realising reserves and identifying opportunities for increased production – stimulations, well interventions, process upgrades and field performance. As a member of the Gannet development team I also work on identifying new opportunities such as potential for new wells or side-tracks of existing wells.

One of the highlights of my role came when I worked as the project team lead on a major well intervention in the largest existing gas producing well in Gannet. The well had not been flowing and intervention had previously failed, however we successfully brought the well on stream and came in under budget. The project involved working with the platform and well engineering staff as well as our contractors and the sub-sea engineering team.

I am part of a Diversity Action Team promoting diversity and inclusiveness in the company and I was asked to help establish the Aberdeen branch of the Women’s Network. In addition, I serve on a committee of early career professionals that organises business and social events, greets new starters and suggests improvements to the on-boarding process.

What do you like best about your role?

I enjoy the responsibility and variety in my current role, particularly as a recent university graduate. I also like the exposure I get to different issues and parts of the business. There is no limit to what you can do – you can get involved in anything as long as you express an interest and prove your performance capabilities.

Tell us about your background and experience

I obtained a B.E. in Civil Engineering and an M.E. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from the American University of Beirut before joining Shell in my current assignment.

What makes you stay at Shell?

The fact that you can change disciplines and work in different locations around the world, and the company will support you in developing the skills you need. Once you find something you like, you can go after it. Shell is a people focused company – people are Shell’s most valuable asset and they do something about it.
