Why did you join Shell? |
| Three things attracted me to Shell: business, technology and people. This is a complex company located and doing business in multiple countries and cultures. We utilise state-of-the-art technology for dealing with non-trivial technical challenges, and we're staffed by a diverse workforce that is sharp and professional, yet informal. When I was hired, there was an opportunity to go on Shell's Gourami business course. I had no knowledge of Shell, or Shell's employees, so the opportunity to meet people who worked for Shell in a focused environment was a great benefit.

How would you describe your role at Shell? |
| I am a reservoir engineer on a global consulting team based in Houston. I'm basically responsible for taking geological and petrophysical data and turning it into a performance profile or forecast for a particular well or field, and for optimising hydrocarbon recovery.
What do you like most about the job? |
| The exciting part is the interface between technology and economics. Frequently, reservoir engineers are responsible for the economic side of the E&P business. We find out how to recover hydrocarbons in the most economically efficient manner possible, and do it subject to critical environmental and technical constraints. Because I have the opportunity to work in a global integrated team comprised of experts from different disciplines, I am exposed to many specialties that generate and implement solutions/projects all over the world. So far, I've been involved with mergers and acquisitions in North America, oil field studies in the Gulf of Mexico, and I'm currently assigned to a major project in Venezuela. I enjoy the diversity here; there are not many places to work with so many talented people from so many different cultures.

What are your future career plans? |
| It's important to me to build both technical and commercial expertise. I would like to utilise my expertise to take on further responsibilities in either a technical or commercial role.
