Why did you decide to work for Shell?

I was excited by the opportunities I'd have to develop new skills as part of the graduate programme. I also knew that there'd be lots of opportunities in different fields within different countries. Also, the principles of the business tied in closely with my own.

How would you describe your role at Shell?

I'm responsible for the purchasing strategies for Downstream Lubricants in three countries - Spain, Portugal and Italy. I need to apply my understanding of business needs such as savings, targets, quality standards and safety, before formulating a procurement strategy that will allow us to get the best option available on the market.

How would you describe your typical day?

Working to a project timetable, I work on different aspects of procurement projects. I'm responsible for handling business requests, being as accommodating as possible but also managing expectations effectively in line with our resources. A typical day could also see me managing supplier requirements in terms of price increases and performance reviews. Sometimes I'll be involved in bigger activities such as tenders.

What do you like most about your role?

What I most like is the fact that I know that there are clear challenges ahead and that I'll be helping to find the best solutions to meet them. It's essential that our analysis is a team effort and the end solution will always be as a result of input from every member of the team.

What makes you stay at Shell?

The commitment from everyone I work with to continue achieving and improving, not only in terms of profit, but in terms of safety, the environment and respect for people. I'm also impressed by Shell's commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. In the future, I'd like to move out of the procurement support function into a business function and to be a member of senior management - or higher!
