At the carwash . . .

Shell introduced Canada's first tunnel carwash in 1958, and has been a leader in the field ever since. Today we have more than 260 carwashes, serving the needs of our customers and their vehicles millions of times a year.

You can find the nearest Shell carwash to your location by using our handy Shell Station Locator and checking off the Carwash box. We promise your vehicle will enjoy it!

Ten top reasons for treating your car to a Shell carwash:

  1. It will make you feel good! As we all know, doing something nice makes us feel good. And if you get your car washed, you're being nice to it, so . . . you'll feel good!

  1. Your car will ride better! As you drive, dirt and various gloop collects around your car's wheels, and suspension. When you go through a carwash, your car gets a good high-pressure spray from underneath, which rinses off the grime, generally resulting in a smoother ride.

  1. Using a commercial carwash is environmentally correct! When you wash your car at home, the soapy residue either soaks into the ground, or runs down the curb to the nearest storm sewer, which in turn flows into streams and rivers, usually with little or no treatment. But when you use a commercial carwash, the used water flows into sanitation sewer systems, and gets the full treatment before it's released into our water systems.

  1. It will save you time! It will take significantly longer most times to wash your car at home than it will to take it through a speedy commercial carwash.

  1. It will help keep rust away! Sounds funny, water keeping rust away. But dirt attracts moisture and keeps it in contact with your car's surface. And dirt adheres most often to tiny scratches and dings on the car's body. So it's obvious that washing away that dirt stops it from sneakily hiding moisture that will result in rusty spots on your car.

  1. It will keep the salt away! Dirt also attracts and holds onto road salt, sea salt and other corrosive materials, keeping them in close contact with your car's body. This will lead to corrosion of the paint surface, which in turn will lead to pitting and rusting. Frequent carwashes — including in the winter — will help to stop this from happening.

  1. It will help keep your car from getting a sunburn! The ultraviolet rays of the sun damage your own unprotected skin, and they also do some damage to your unprotected car. And just as you put sun block on your skin to protect yourself, there are compounds available when you get a really thorough carwash that will help to protect your car's finish from sun-induced aging.

  1. It keeps bird and insect gloop from staining or harming your car's finish! Bird droppings, insect smears, tree sap, even harmful materials in rain — they can all start to harm your car's finish. Heat will accelerate the damage, and since your car can get extremely hot due to either engine temperature or daily sunshine, a frequent visit to a carwash is a worthwhile preventive maintenance activity.

  1. It shows pride in ownership! A clean car makes it clear that you care about it. Imagine how your car would feel if someone wrote "Wash me" in the grime on its windows! Imagine how you'd feel if someone did that to you!

  1. It will protect your investment! Remember, the first thing a used car buyer looks at is the external appearance of the vehicle. If you keep it clean, and as scratch-free and rust-free as possible, it will help you get a higher trade-in or resale value for it when the time comes. A clean car is a healthy car!
