Cassis A – Flushing Oil

Manufacturers commonly use a variety of thick film rust preventatives to protect the internal precision surfaces of new systems and other machinery during shipment and storage. These preventatives vary considerably in oil solubility and because of their very nature they can have deleterious effects upon the life of a high-quality lubricating oil and must therefore be removed. Cassis A oil is inhibited against rust and its special solvents also enable it to act as a penetrating oil to "dislodge" any dirt and/or construction debris which may be left within a system after it has been assembled or operated for a long period of time. It is ideally suited for flushing large systems such as those of paper machines, marine and manufacturing plants.

This oil, in addition to its solvency also has the advantage of being able to pick up any water left behind in oil piping. Best flushing is obtained if the Cassis A oil is preheated to temperatures between 60 °C and 70 °C but adequate ventilation must be provided.

CAUTION:
Cassis A oil will attack and/or remove some paints; if this is not desired, a cutback solution should be tested before charging the system. In some cases, a mild flushing oil such as Shell Vitrea Oil 22 may be desirable.
