With product safety at the top of the agenda, Shell was asked to address the risk of contamination at 11 production plants and improve production efficiency in the process. Shell conducted a comprehensive and systematic survey at one of the plants, immediately identifying areas where improvements could be made. One of the primary recommendations was the use of Cassida, Shell's specialist grade/H1 approved lubricant range, rather than standard non-food grade lubricants. In addition, the Shell team introduced a number of innovative services, such as on-site technical support, lubricant analysis and staff training in lubrication fundamentals. Health, Safety and the Environment (HS&E) were also important considerations for the company and Shell was able to implement a program that underpinned all aspects of fluid storage, handling and disposal. In addition, the Shell team audited legislative obligations to ensure a safer working environment for all staff. The initial plant survey and subsequent implementation proved so successful that roll out of similar programs has quickly followed at the remaining 10 plants as part of a three year contract. Company Technical Manager comments: "We have a reputation for the production of high quality food products. The performance of Shell Cassida lubricants is outstanding and the implementation of a complete lubrication management service has helped to increase our production processes whilst delivering real bottom line savings". Shell's Technical Consultant comments: "As lubrication management is not part of this companies core business, they needed a partner with the knowledge, skill and expertise to implement a cost effective fluid management plan. Our Fluid Solutions were carefully formulated in collaboration with the client and the Cassida range was introduced to protect against contamination. The implementation of our maintenance program, meanwhile, provides a safeguard against breakdown and downtime and has created significant cost savings for the customer."
