“The number of employees who volunteered with the United Way campaign and Day of Caring™ events was an equally important component of the success of this year’s campaign,” said Adrian Loader, Shell Canada President. “Shell people truly showed what they can do when they work together to make a difference in our community.” Shell’s 2007 Calgary United Way campaign adopted the tagline “I do because I care...Imagine what we can do together ”. This was a call to action for Shell employees to combine their efforts and put their care and concern for the community to work. As a result, almost 1,300 Shell people participated in Day of Caring™ events in the last year and volunteered for activities to raise awareness of United Way.
Through the company’s Kids Helping Kids program, 22 children of Shell employees hosted a lemonade stand to raise funds for United Way, and collected items to donate to The Alex Community Health Centre and NeighbourLink Calgary.
“Shell never fails to amaze us with their generosity and desire to make a positive impact on their community by giving back where it counts,” said United Way of Calgary and Area President Ruth Ramsden-Wood. “It is a win-win when companies can build their own sense of team while engaging in community and focusing on a goal greater than themselves. Shell exemplifies that by giving of their time, energy and resources. Our gratitude is immeasurable.”
