Response personnel immediately activated emergency shutdown valves, which successfully isolated the affected section of the pipeline and brought the situation under control. There have been no injuries or health complaints reported but as a safety precaution, Shell evacuated several families in the vicinity and continues to be in contact with people in the affected region.
The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, Alberta Environment and the local health authority have been informed.
