Shell-sponsored Aboriginal students on board for Ottawa career fair

07 Feb 2005

Sarnia, Ontario – Thirteen Sarnia students are train-bound for Ottawa on February 8 to attend one of Canada’s largest Aboriginal career fairs.

Shell Canada is sponsoring the group to attend Blueprint for the Future, a career fair designed to inform grade 10-12 students about employment opportunities and training requirements in diverse sectors of the workforce.  They will also have a chance to visit the Parliament Buildings and do some sightseeing during the three-day trip.

“Shell is a strong supporter of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation and has sponsored the foundation’s Blueprint for the Future career fairs since 1998,” says Heather Cooper, community liaison officer for Shell’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre.

The students are from Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School (SCITS), Alexander Mackenzie High School and St. Clair Secondary School.  They will attend the event along with 1,000 fellow Aboriginal students.

“This trip is such a great learning opportunity for these students and I know how much they are looking forward to the experience,” says local youth worker and chaperone Valerie Cottrelle.

Students will attend career sessions on February 9 to learn about different organizations and professions before returning to Sarnia on February 10.  To learn more about Blueprint for the Future, visit www.naaf.ca
