Shell Canada salutes young Alberta volunteers through Shell’s Spirit of the Future Awards

18 Apr 2005

Calgary, Alberta - In celebration of Alberta’s centennial, Shell Canada today announced Shell’s Spirit of the Future Awards, a program that will award 30 exceptional young Albertans, ages 16-25, a $5,000 scholarship towards their post-secondary education. Shell will also make a $5,000 contribution to the not-for-profit organizations with which each winner volunteers. Shell Canada has teamed up with Global Television to present the Awards.

“Through Shell’s Spirit of the Future Awards, we hope to encourage Alberta’s young volunteers to continue their education and, at the same time, recognize their commitment to their communities.  We believe the recipients of our Spirit of the Future Awards will play an important part in building Alberta’s future,” says Shell Canada President and CEO Clive Mather.

"Global Television is proud to join Shell Canada, in Shell's Spirit of the Future Awards program," says Chris McGinley, Vice President Western Stations, Global Television Network. "In recognizing young volunteers who have demonstrated their commitment to our communities, we truly honour Alberta's centennial year. These scholarships will support Alberta's youth in their educational initiatives, and in the growth and future of our province."

Global Television is providing information about Shell’s Spirit of the Future Awards, encouraging eligible Albertans to apply.

Winners will be selected by June 17, 2005 and will star in their own television vignette that will air across Alberta on Global Television’s network in the last half of 2005.
