Recycling road pavements reduces the amount of new materials required by 20%

Recycling road pavements involves removing and re-using the surface course in a new asphalt mixture to repair or resurface an existing road. This reduces the amount of new aggregate required by 20% and therefore collectively reduces the need for additional quarrying with its associated costs and impact on the environment.

Because the properties of an asphalt mix with reclaimed asphalt need to be the same as without, Shell Bitumen developed a special binder with a higher polymer content (Caribit RC) and launched an even higher modified series (Caribit RC+) last year.
