Celebrating 100 years of involvement in Aviation industry
Delivering Innovation to your Advantage

Every day at over 850 airports across some 55 countries, Shell Aviation provides fuel for more than 7,000 aircraft, refuelling a plane every 12 seconds. Shell Aviation’s customers range from the private pilot to the largest global airlines. Shell is committed to ensuring that you benefit from a comprehensive, totally reliable supply network and the best possible service.
Since the birth of modern aviation, Shell has been providing quality fuels, lubricants and associated services to the aviation community. In July 2009 Shell Aviation celebrated 100 years of delivering innovation to the aviation industry, based on Louis Blériot’s flight crossing the English Channel in 1909 using Shell fuel. Since this time Shell has played a crucial role in many landmark events in the aviation industry, from helping Sir Frank Whittle develop the jet engine to the development of alternative jet fuels today.
Shell Aviation is constantly working on fuels and lubricants research and development projects at aviation research laboratories at Cheshire Innovation Park, UK (formerly Thornton Research Centre), whilst research on greases is being done at the Westhollow fuels and lubricants research laboratories in Houston, USA. In addition, Shell participates in, and co-operates with, leading industry bodies to refine fuel specifications and to improve test methodology.
Consistency and reliability are essential prerequisites for any supplier. This is especially true when it comes to aviation fuel, where demand looks set to keep growing and where safety is such a key issue. Shell operates and manufactures to very tight specifications and to the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environment. Shell’s operations place emphasis on leveraging local supply strengths combined with international global support.
With our depth of knowledge and breadth of resources, Shell is uniquely qualified to offer commercial support, technical back-up and wide-ranging consultancy. Shell’s standards of excellence are recognized both by its business partners and by industrial experts such as the Armbrust Aviation Group, who as at 2008 have voted Shell Aviation as the Best International Jet Fuel Marketer three times out of the last four years.
Shell Aviation, as part of the Shell Group of companies, fully embraces Shell’s aspirations and commitments to sustainable development. We aspire to be a leader in economic, environmental and social aspects of everything we do; first choice for Shell’s shareholders, its employees, society and future generations and you.
