The Reconnections project is reconstructing native vegetation and working with landholders to develop new forms of bio-diversity focused agriculture. It is also looking at ways to sequester (store) carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, through the revegetation process. By coming together and combining their skills, knowledge and experience, Shell and Greening Australia have devised a three year project with multiple outcomes. The project is in its final year and has had impressive results. The Reconnections team have planted over 167,000 trees and seedlings, with Shell staff and their families planting approximately 40, 000 of those on highly successful staff planting trips. The total area of revegetation over the last three years is around 770 hectares, which is equivalent to 770 football fields! |
