Frequently Asked Questions

printable version
A list of commonly asked questions about Shell's customer account management process.

What do I do if I have a new ABN and Legal name?
You will need to complete a new application form due to a change in legal entity

What do I need to do in order to open a bulk fuel/lubes account with Shell?
You must have an ABN, minimum annual usage of 10KL for bulk fuel and 250L for lubes.  If you meet these requirements, complete the application form which can be accessed on the 'Become a bulk fuel/lubes customer' and send it back to us.

What do I do if I don't meet the minimum requirements to open a Shell bulk fuel/lubes account?
For bulk fuel, contact your local fuel distributor and for lubes, contact your local/nearest Blackwoods or Elders.

Do I have to complete a Customer Site Self Assessment if I only require packed lubricants?
No you do not, the CSSA only applies to customers that have a bulk tank on their premises.

Why do I have to complete a Customer Site Self Assessment (CSSA)?
The Shell Company of Australia is committed to working towards a safe environment not only for Shell’s staff and drivers, but also for our customers and other third parties associated with Shell.

We have identified that one of the high risk areas for our staff is the task of filling overhead tanks on farms and industrial sites, thus using a Customer Site Assessment program minimises risks of harm to humans, animals and the environment:

  • To ensure the safety of delivery drivers, protection of the environment, and compliance with Shell and Australian Standards.
  • To meet the HSSE requirement under the 'Duty of Care' clause in respective state legislation
  • To meet the HSSE requirement within the Shell principles of 'No harm to people and the protection of the environment'

What is a 'Ship To' code?
When you speak to someone within Shell they may ask for your ship to number. This number is our reference to sites that we deliver to that belong to you. For instance you may only have one account with Shell but you may have a number of sites spread across a geographical area, and as such these numbers help us to know which site we need to deliver to and any information we need to know about it.

What is a 'Sold To' code?
This is the "parent company" of any ship to's. Generally the Sold To number will refer to the head office for your account. This number will be linked to all information about your account.
