In a unique collaboration between Shell Australia Limited and contractors working on maintenance projects at Shell’s Clyde Refinery, money was donated to a fund for the Thomas family for each working day free of a recordable injury or lost time injury. “Safety is at the core of everything we do, and this commitment to workplace safety by our contractors has resulted in a significant fundraising effort for the Thomas family,” Shell Clyde Refinery Manager, David Johnston, said. “It is with great delight that on behalf of Shell and all the contractors involved I hand over the keys of this new Kia Grand Carnival to Mrs Thomas.” The contractors working on the maintenance project at Shell’s Clyde Refinery and contributing to the fundraising were: Transfield Services Limited, United Group Resources, Contract Resources, All State Cranes, Pilbara, Hannas Group of Companies, National Insulation, New World Engineering & Steel, Andreco Hurll, Coates Hire and Stork Cooperheat. “The Thomas family was the popular choice amongst the contractors to be the recipient of the money raised, and we hope the new vehicle will enable the family to travel more easily, improving their quality of life,” said Andrew Cheetham, Project Manager for Transfield Services Limited. Mrs Thomas is a full-time carer for her two disabled children, Nathan and Chantal, both of whom have an undiagnosed physical disability and are in wheelchairs. The family lives in Penrith, but attended Shell’s Clyde Refinery in Parramatta today for the surprise presentation. Shell’s Clyde Refinery is currently undergoing major engineering work, with an investment of over $150 million to upgrade the Refinery. Around 800 contractors have been working at the site since the work began early this year. - Ends - For further information contact:
