Shell Unleaded E10 was introduced in New South Wales in May 2007 and is now available at over 100 Shell branded and Coles Express sites. Shell also sells Shell V-Power Racing, Australia’s only 100-octane petrol available at the pump, which is formulated with 5% ethanol. Commenting on the infrastructure in place, Mr Kelly said that the New South Wales Government was very pleased that Shell was working hard towards providing more environmentally friendly, quality fuel alternatives for NSW motorists. “We introduced and passed legislation in June this year to ensure 2% of petrol in NSW is ethanol. It is very pleasing to see that Shell had been planning these facilities and the conversion of Shell branded service stations to supply ethanol blends well ahead of the mandate,” Mr Kelly said. Shell has invested almost $2 million on ethanol related infrastructure at its Parramatta terminal, including large underground storage tanks, demonstrating its commitment to moving ahead with ethanol blends in Australia. Shell’s facilities will have the capacity to provide hundreds of millions of litres of ethanol-blended fuel into the NSW market each year. Shell Clyde Refinery Manager, Mr David Johnston said that the company recognised that motorists in New South Wales are increasingly concerned with greenhouse gas emissions and wanted more environmentally friendly fuels. “We are responding with a biofuel that is ‘safer for the environment’ and also ‘safe for the car’*. Motorists can be confident in the knowledge that Shell stands by the quality of all its fuel products,” Mr Johnston said. Shell Unleaded E10, which contains 10 per cent ethanol, has a minimum 94 octane rating, higher than the Federal Government mandated minimum of 91 octane for regular unleaded fuels, and contains Shell’s exclusive Fuel Economy formula. A renewable fuel component, ethanol used by Shell is a by-product of Australian sugar cane and wheat industries. Ethanol lessens the environmental footprint by helping reduce Greenhouse gas emissions. As Shell Unleaded E10 uses locally produced ethanol, the manufacturing process also supports a range of Australian industries. Shell recommends motorists consult their car manufacturer or the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries website at www.autoindustries.com.au for further details on the ethanol compatibility of their car. Ethanol blended fuels should not be used in marine craft, lawnmowers or aircraft. Motorbike owners should consult their individual manufacturer. Ethanol helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
