These propositions come in different guises, but generally solicit the help of the recipients in transferring huge sums of money in foreign currency. The people initiating these propositions claim the sums involved are entitlements due from Shell Companies in Nigeria in respect of deceased relations, or monies accruing from excess crude oil sales, or have been forgotten in some dormant account. Sometimes they also propose to award huge value contracts to the recipients of such mails. It is pertinent to note that most of these scam mails are written in very poor English. Curiously also is the fact that the mails, purportedly originating from The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited are not sent from Shell e-mail addresses. We therefore wish to dissociate ourselves from any such mails, and to advise the public to do the following: - Do not respond to unsolicited business propositions and/or offers from people you are unfamiliar with.
- Do not disclose your personal/financial details to anyone you do not know.
- Contact the Nigerian Embassy in your country. You may in addition also refer such mails to your country’s Embassy/High Commission in Nigeria for investigation.
Finally, for scam mails purportedly emanating from or related to The Shell Companies in Nigeria, we advise that you contact the following: Corporate External Affairs Manager The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited Shell Industrial Area, Aba Road, P.O.
