Kmart Tyre & Auto Service purchases Shell autoserv

06/01/2006

Shell Australia Limited and Kmart Tyre and Auto Service (“KTAS” – a subsidiary of Kmart and part of the Coles Myer group) announced today that 90 Shell autoserv and Auto Care car servicing branches would be purchased by Kmart Tyre and Auto Service for an undisclosed and confidential sum.

The agreement is effective 20 February 2006 and will see the Shell autoserv and Auto Care sites re-branded to Kmart Tyre and Auto Service progressively.

Importantly, all current Shell Auto Care and Shell autoserv employees will be offered a role with KTAS.

Managing Director Kmart Tyre and Auto Service John Sink said, “This agreement  gives us the opportunity to strategically grow our business, making KTAS the largest car servicing business in Australia with over 280 stores, many located conveniently next to Coles Express Service Stations.”

“We will offer customers a fantastic network across the country, with benefits including consistent car servicing and great value tyre offer across more stores, plus Fly Buys and Coles Myer Source Mastercard offers.

Shell autoserv General Manager, Greg Fisher said, “The sale of the Shell autoserv business is a positive step in strengthening the alliance we have with the Coles Express network as well as expanding an existing popular brand in car servicing.  We have a dedicated team of over 300 staff who have worked hard to make Shell autoserv a successful business in a highly competitive market.”

Kmart Tyre and Auto Service currently provides an extensive range of quality car servicing at competitive prices at over 195 branches across Australia.
