SYDNEY JUHI 26 August 2005 - Jet fuel restrictions at Sydney Airport

26/08/2005

Sydney Airport is experiencing temporary jet fuel shortages. Although there is a large quantity of jet fuel in storage at facilities in Sydney, testing has shown that a significant amount of the fuel is "off specification".

Normal stringent quality control procedures have ensured that none of the off specification fuel has been loaded into aircraft.

Investigations are continuing to identify what may have caused the problem with the fuel.

The companies involved in the JUHI (Joint User Hydrant Installation) * have isolated the off specification fuel. Oil company suppliers will be rationed to 40 per cent of their normal demand. Each oil company will then work with their individual airline customers to determine appropriate supplies for domestic and international airlines in order to minimise disruption to the travelling public.

This rationing will come into effect from 2300hrs 26 August 2005.

The situation will be monitored and reviewed on a twice-daily basis. The JUHI companies deeply regret any inconvenience that this may cause and are working to resolve this issue in order to restore normal supply as soon as possible.

* The JUHI stores and distributes jet fuel at Sydney Airport. The JUHI companies include BP, Caltex, Mobil and Shell
