There were three categories for the awards on the night for Best Health Safety Security and Environmental (HSSE) Performance, Special Recognition Awards and Best Overall Performance.
The awards were primarily based on results from Shell’s “7-Pillar Assessment Programme” which provides a consistent, uniform method for comparing third party contractors on their processes and performance in relation to organisation, financial management, HSSE, driver management, maintenance, journey management and customer service.
The Best Overall Performance award went to Cootes Transport Group (Newport Contract). This award recognises the organisation whose overall operation came closest to meeting the criteria set out in Shell’s 7-Pillars Assessment.
The Best HSSE Performance award emphasises the importance of compliance to Shell Australia’s stringent HSSE standards and the winner of this award was Cootes Transport Group (Newport Contract).
General Manager of Cootes Transport, Richard Roberts said, “We were delighted to win the Best Overall and Best HSSE Performance awards. The criteria used by Shell is extremely high and for our Spotswood Operation to win both awards is magnificent recognition fort he drivers, mechanics administration and management staff who work tirelessly everyday.”
The Special Recognition awards are based on nominations by Shell staff and presented to individuals who are judged to have gone ‘above and beyond’ in providing outstanding service for, or on behalf of, Shell. A total of twenty-six Special Recognition Award Certificates were presented to individuals throughout the year, with the efforts of eight individuals judged worthy of Special Mention and recognised on the night.
Two nominations stood out to the committee of judges and as a result two drivers, Kim Turner of Transwest Haulage and Gary Baldwin of John L Pierce, were presented with trophies and prizes on the night.
Shell’s Distribution Manager, Bruce Emson said, “We are thrilled to present these awards tonight to a very deserving group of organisations and individuals. The Hired carriers are an integral part of our distribution business as they provide support to our distribution function and have day to day contact with our customers. We couldn’t run our business as well as we do without their support.” The aim of the Hired Carrier Awards is to maintain a positive working relationship between Shell and its hired carriers, with the ultimate aim of providing improved service levels for all Shell customers.
