 What is your current role at Shell? I am the geologist supporting SDA’s North West Shelf Assets Team. This involves ensuring that the geological and geophysical subsurface aspects of Operator’s (=Woodside) project proposals to the Joint Venture partners are technically sound and in line with Shell’s requirements. Another aspect of my job is providing the geological support to the company’s annual reporting of hydrocarbon reserves.
What do you like best about your role? The opportunity to work with a vast range of other disciplines on a regular basis, from engineers to economists and gas marketers. Because of the Joint Venture arrangement, there is also much scope to liaise with technical counterparts in other companies. My SDA colleagues are experienced and co-operative and we have a good working atmosphere. Tell us about your background and experience I obtained an MSc in Geology in the Netherlands and have mostly worked in Exploration Departments of several Shell OUs (UK, US, Egypt, Australia) in various geological settings. To broaden my experience within the Upstream, I made the move last year into SDA’s Development Team, which supports producing assets. Through understanding the specific subsurface aspects of both exploration and production, I aim to be a strong contributor to bringing discovered hydrocarbons on stream. What makes you stay at Shell? Recently a very important aspect is the possibility to work part-time, which enables me to balance work and family. In general it is the ability to tap into world-wide expertise and the opportunity to work on project across the globe. In every location I have come across great colleagues and friends. |
