In launching the new EIP 2007-2009, Refinery General Manager Huck Poh, said: “The new EIP has an increased focus on managing our resources more efficiently. This focus reflects community feedback and is in line with the significant increased awareness of climate change. “As part of this, we have set goals to improve our energy management and greenhouse savings, and we are developing an energy focus team at the refinery,” Huck said. "We've invested significant funds to achieve many environmental improvements, including cleaner fuels, particulate emission reductions, better water management, and expanded ambient air monitoring. “I am proud of what we have achieved and I would like to acknowledge and thank the refinery's Community Advisory Panel members for their advice and commitment to this EIP,” Huck said. Cr Lou Brazier, Chairman of Shell’s Community Advisory Panel, said in these times of environmental change it was imperative that companies acted in a sustainable manner. She said, Shell had demonstrated its commitment to being a responsible steward of the environment through the adoption of the EIP. “Our natural environment cannot be taken for granted and sound environmental management must remain at the heart of organisations’ values, policies and actions,” Cr Brazier said. “I’m delighted that Shell has stepped up to the challenge by incorporating sustainable development into its operations and planning to achieve continuous environmental improvement.” The new Federal Member for Corio, Richard Marles addressed guests on Barwon Water’s Northern Water Plant.
