SHELL APPOINTS FIRST SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

28/04/2006

Paul Cristofani has joined Shell Geelong Refinery as its first Sustainable Development Manager.

Mr Cristofani, who has extensive experience at all levels of government and a solid industry background, will work to translate the principles of sustainable development into practical benefits for the community, environment and business in Geelong.

“When performing a job within a business, we naturally tend to focus on the ‘silo’ – the specific area or discipline – we work in. Sustainable development seeks to find the value that exists between the silos – the hidden synergies that we can deliver to our business, community and environment by looking at a bigger picture,” Mr Cristofani said.

“What we need to do is open our eyes and ears and look for ways that take the refinery beyond compliance to benefit not only our business but also our  community and planet over a longer time frame,” he said.

Refinery Manager Huck Poh welcomed him aboard.

“Paul is not only the first Sustainable Development Manager for Shell Geelong but also for Shell in Oceania. This senior appointment reflects the importance we place on operating in a way that is positive for the business, the environment and the community,” Mr Poh said.

Paul has previously worked developing and driving sustainable development initiatives across the mining and agriculture industries, and is a regular commentator on environmental and sustainability issues on regional and national radio. He has moved from Canberra to Geelong with his wife and two children.
