MOVED BY ART!

09/08/2006

Students taking part in the Shell Art Bus Program are being moved by art – literally.

The 25-seat Shell Art Bus, used to transport local school children to and from the Geelong Gallery, has recently been decorated with a brightly-coloured illustration by graphic designer Carmen Kelly - the wife of a Shell Geelong Refinery employee.

Carmen’s brief was to come up with a design that reflected the focus areas of the refinery’s social investment program – health, education and care for the environment. The end result depicts children, including one dressed in a Cats football jumper, playing outdoors.

“Children learn best in a fun and engaging environment. To make the Shell Art Bus experience as much fun as possible, we decided to decorate the bus itself,” Caroline Ritchie, Community Development Officer, Shell Geelong Refinery said.

The Shell Art Bus program was initiated in 2005 by Shell Geelong Refinery as part of its ongoing support of the Geelong Gallery and the community. It is supported by the Ardoch Youth Foundation. Shell's support involves the refinery providing gallery memberships for three years to the schools in the program so that they may visit the gallery as often as they wish. Since the program began, more than 120 children from schools in Geelong’s northern suburbs have taken part.
