SHELL GEELONG REFINERY ACHIEVES TWO MILLION HOURS WITHOUT LOST TIME INJURY

27/04/2006

Shell Geelong Refinery employees recently celebrated two million hours worked without a lost time injury (LTI) – that is, an injury that resulted in time away from work.

The milestone closely follows the refinery achieving its best ever safety performance in 2005 by working for an entire year without incurring a recordable injury (an injury that caused time to be lost, required medical treatment or restricted work).

Refinery Manager, Huck Poh, said the latest achievement is also a first in the refinery’s 52-year history and is evidence of a journey towards world-class safety.

“Two million work-hours without a lost time injury is an outstanding achievement and shows we are working well as a team in embedding a safety culture,” said Huck.

“We have once again demonstrated that it is possible to achieve world class safety standards and this is something that we must continue to maintain.

“As Refinery Manager I am proud of what employees and contractors have done to achieve this safety milestone,” he said.

Refinery employees were presented with a gift to mark the occasion.
