SHELL GEELONG REFINERY APPOINTS NEW GENERAL MANAGER

21/10/2005

Shell Geelong Refinery today announced the appointment of Dr Huck Poh as General Manager effective 24 October 2005.

The current Refinery Manager, Geoff Ellison, has accepted a Shell regional manufacturing position.

As Operations Manager, Dr Poh has more than 20 years experience with Shell both locally and internationally and has been working at the Geelong refinery for the past 2.5 years.

“Since his appointment Geoff has made a significant contribution to the business and the entire team thanks him for this input and wishes him well in his new role,” said Dr Poh.

“In the past year, the refinery recorded a number of significant milestones, including one million man hours worked without a recordable injury and has been recognised for engineering excellence.

“Our environmental performance has also improved vastly and I look forward to continuing this positive work,” he said.

Shell Geelong Refinery is one of the largest and most complex refineries in Australia and is a major local employer. The refinery produces 50 percent of Victoria’s, 100 percent of Tasmania’s and 15 percent of Australia’s fuel.

Each year the refinery injects about $100 million into the local Geelong economy and also supports a number of community initiatives via an extensive community development program.
