Globally, Shell has made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 2010 to levels at least 5% lower than in 1990. In 2003 the refinery developed a three-year Greenhouse Reduction Action Plan, which was completed in 2006. The plan was developed in accordance with the Victorian EPA’s Protocol for Environmental Management (Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy Efficiency for Industry), and reduced annual Greenhouse Gas emissions from the refinery by approximately 54,500 tonnes CO2-eq. The refinery will continue to manage its GHG emissions via the state and federal legislated programs, including: - Environment & Resource Efficiency Plans (Victorian Environment Protection Act Regulations)
- National Greenhouse & Energy Reporting Act (Federal)
- Energy Efficiency Opportunities Act (Federal)
Reports will be provided per legislated requirements and summary of actions implemented reported publicly twice annually through the EIP.
