At Shell, we pride ourselves on running our business in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Through Shell’s documented global business principles, we take great care in meeting this objective through daily activities and regular testing of procedures. This is particularly important when it comes to safety and security. For this reason, we frequently check our ability to respond to emergencies through ‘desktop’ and practical exercises involving agencies such as the Police, Fire Brigade and so on. We’ll be undertaking one of these exercises on Thursday, 30 October 2008 at the Gore Bay Terminal in Manns Avenue, Greenwich. As this is a major emergency test exercise, it is likely residents and visitors in Greenwich will see and hear emergency vehicles and personnel in the area around the Terminal. There may also be water-borne emergency craft involved. The exercise is not expected to impede traffic flow around the Terminal, however, residents and motorists should be mindful of the presence of emergency services vehicles and personnel. As a result of this presence, there will be the potential for emergency services personnel to give directions to passing traffic. Due caution should therefore be exercised.
