More than 60 representatives from the oil sector and government agencies took part in a recent shipping standards workshop organised by Shell in Abu Dhabi, as part of the Company's efforts to share its expertise in international oil shipping.

The one-day workshop, which was the second in a Shell regional roadshow, was conducted by Shell's Marine Manager Ashley Buhl and visiting Shell specialists. Participants were introduced to the Company's approach to international shipping standards and procedures and familiarised with best practices from the Shell Group's experience.

"As developments in the oil shipping arena change apace, our customers find it increasingly difficult to keep themselves updated," said Mr. Buhl.

"Organising this roadshow gave us the opportunity to present some of the key advancements in the field as well as to provide a concise overview of Shell's procedures. It helped us fulfill our role of supporting the continuous development of, and improvements in, the industry."

Among the topics highlighted at the Shell regional roadshows were tanker vetting, oil spill compensation schemes and comparison of local, regional and international shipping standards. The workshop comprised a series of visual presentations, followed by group discussions.

Participants included senior professionals from Zadco, ADMA OPCO, ADNOC Distribution and NGO (EEG).

"The UAE is a dominant force in the Middle East oil industry and Shell has played a pioneering role in introducing technological innovations and solutions to the region," added Dr. Mohamed Defrawi - Managing Director Shell Abu Dhabi.

"Knowledge sharing with our partners and building personal relationships is a continuous process for Shell. We were delighted to interact with so many representatives of some of the biggest companies in Abu Dhabi."
