- What is your current role at Shell?

I lead the Asphaltene team of the Flow Assurance Group of Shell Global Solutions US Inc., one of the largest groups in both Company and industry. We minimise operators’ Unit Technical Cost through best-in-class technical advice and contractor management – and we’re challenged to leverage the best service both regionally and globally.

My team is uncompromisingly focused on delivery and exceeding our business partners’ expectations. Success is measured on making our work environment comfortable and safe, achieving work-life balance and sharing goals and values.

We use a global multi-disciplinary network of experts – internal and external – to bring together diverse knowledge and expertise in various areas. This enables us to achieve joint goals and operational excellence in exploration and production.

We also work to develop new tools and technologies. Within our group, we have a focused research and development effort that includes several groundbreaking joint industry projects. Implementing these new technologies enables us to become industry-recognised leaders.

- What do you like best about your role?

I enjoy the multi-faceted nature of the job and the intricate network of the various issues we face. We’re challenged to set up and deliver on new, higher performance standards on many fronts, including commercial, technology and people management.

I also love the opportunity to mentor new professionals and help in their career development.

- Tell us about your background and experience

I am a geologist by background. I received my MSc from Moscow State University in Russia and my PhD from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Before I joined Shell, I worked as an economic geologist prospecting for platinum deposits in Russia. After a successful run, I came to Dallas to start my doctorate study.

I was drawn to Shell for its reputation as ‘the company that treats people differently’. It stood out as a truly international technology-driven business, where I could pursue an international career.

- What makes you stay at Shell?

I love having a job with diverse challenges, a strong technology drive and the ability to distribute our best practices among the Shell companies. I also enjoy the non-technical challenges, such as managing new business partners and external exposure, as well as the pleasure of dealing with talented professionals across the company.

Additionally, there are diverse career opportunities available. Shell offers a truly unique chance to try on something different as you progress.
