What is your current role at Shell?

I have had several roles at Shell including Occupational Health Advisor at Geelong Refinery, Safety Consultant and my current role of Senior OHS Advisor.

My current role with Shell is providing advice on Occupational Health and Safety matters. My main focus is on health and hygiene issues. That includes monitoring and advising on issues that relate to workers health, and ensuring any health hazards are controlled adequately.

The role involves work out in the field, as well as office-based tasks, all of which provide a varied work environment.

What do you like best about your role?

The main aspects I like about my job are the people and the variation of work. My colleagues’ professionalism and the ability to have fun make it a pleasure to work here.

The work presents me with varying challenges and the ability to make a change and a positive difference for people at work. There is opportunity to develop into other roles, within different businesses within Shell, and even overseas.

Tell us about your background and experience

I grew up in a country Victorian town. When I finished my final high school year I completed my registered nurse training at Warrnambool & District base Hospital. I moved interstate to work, before entering Occupational Health in 1991 in Adelaide. I completed further studies in Occupational Health and Safety and a Graduate Diploma in Hazard Management. I have worked in a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, automotive and white goods, before settling into the petrochemical industry.

What makes you stay at Shell?

Shell has provided me with a wide range of exposure to Health, Safety & Environmental issues across Shell businesses. This presents many different challenges and means work is never boring. There is also the opportunity to work autonomously and as part of a team, where my thoughts and input make a difference and my experience is appreciated.
